Equipment Requirements

Students are required to have their own boat and motor which will be used during the On-The- Water sessions - unless otherwise specified by the instructor. The student must bring his own fishing equipment, so the instructor can see what is being used. Trolling Equipment: Two trolling rods, one reel spooled with NO-BO line and the other reel with wire line. (17 lb.. test line is recommended). Recommended casting equipment is a 6-7 foot heavyaction rod and bait casting (revolving spool) reel. 14-17 lb. test line is recommended if using monofilament line. The super lines will also serve the purpose. If you have any questions regarding the casting equipment, ask your instructor when contacting him. You should also have your own supply of Spoonplugs in all 7 sizes and bring them along to the training sessions. That is just a common courtesy. The instructor may provide several types of jump-lures and a lure knocker. It is best to ask him ahead of time.

Training Contents

The training course consists of one evening classroom session where the Instructor will show the 17 Structure Situation slides making reference to those which the student will map and work out on the water. Each student receives a copy of Mr. Perry’s 28 pg. Structure Situation Guide for easy reference on the water. (Can be purchased from Buck’s Baits or National Spoonpluggers for $6.95 + S/H) The course also consists of three on the water sessions. The amount of time spent on the water each day is determined by the instructor. The waters worked (natural lakes/reservoirs) are chosen by the instructor.

Training Cost

The cost of the training course can vary. It is advisable the student travel to the Instructor. The student is responsible for his own expenses - gas, food, lodging, traveling to the instructor. This includes whatever gas is used for the outboard motor. None of these are included in the fee charged to the student. The fee for the course is $475.00 if a subscriber to National Spoonpluggers. We have made the fees as reasonable as possible, despite the rising cost of everything else. If distance is a factor, the gas, food and lodging is far more than the fee to take the course. Despite increased costs, the fee has not changed since Mr. Perry instituted the Training Center several years ago.
